The Centre
is a tribute to the common heritage of
North - European Countries. It is situated in a country-style
Nordic lodge convenient to all areas of Greater Vancouver.
With its many ongoing events and activities it has brought
together B.C.'s Scandinavian Community.
The Danish
House Society was founded in 1996 to be an
equalparticipant in the Scandinavian Community Centre,
along with the Finland, Norwegian and Sweden House Societies.
Our current
lease agreement with the Scandinavian Community
Centre recognizes us as an equal partnerwith the other three
"houses" in the affairs of the Centre, while providing exclusive
use of the Danish Room. A purchase option allows the Danish
House Society to acquire a deeded one-quarter interest in
the four-acre property up to March 2007.
The Centre
itself is operated by the Scandinavian
Community Centre Society (SCCS). The SCCS is
administered by the Board of Directors with equal
representation from each member House Society.
While raising
funds for the property purchase remains an underlying
priority, we have also endeavoured to make membership in
the Danish House Society an enjoyable experience. We host
a popular Club Night on the first Friday of each month, a Fall Auction,
Christmas by the Fireside, Fastelavn Fest and Easter Brunch with
an Easter Egg Hunt These are in addition to activities for the benefit
of SCCS such as the New Years Eve Dinner Dance and the annual
Scandinavian Midsummer Festival.
You will like
what the Danish House Society is doing towards preservation
of the Danish language and culture and having a lot of fun in the process.
Please support us and become a member today! Membership in the
Society is also open to organizations such as any Danish society,
club or related group.
