The deadline for the Scholarship Awards has passed and we did not receive any applications. There will not be any awards this year. Last year we had more applicants than we had Awards, if they are still attending school, college or Universities, there is next year.

Wine Tasting

Here are some pictures of the wine tasting in May. It was a very successful and interesting event. Thanks to Henrik and Norm.

Norman Gladstone of International Cellars was our Guest Speaker

at the May 14th general meeting.  Norman put on a very interesting

wine tasting with a total of eight different wines being poured.

The objective was to compare wines from different regions around

the world.  The event was almost a sell-out with all Members and

Guests having a great evening.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who showed up early to assist

with setting up the tables and pouring some 480 glasses of wine !

The SBC also wish to thank Pedersen’s Rentals for their kind consideration.

Cheers!

Henrik

President's report

Dear Members:

Last dinner meeting was a great success with 55 members and guests attending our wine tasting event hosted by Norman Gladstone. Norman gave us a taste of his vast knowledge of wine, and a very interesting selection of different wines for the tasting.

Jack Larsen has retired as Treasurer, and we thank him for his good work over the years.  He will continue to serve the Club as a member of the Executive Board.  The Board has appointed Ken McLean as our new Treasurer.

The deadline for this year's scholarship applications has passed, so any applications we receive for the remainder of this year will be considered at the awards selection next May.

We will have our traditional information booth at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival June 21 - 22, and are inviting volunteers.  Please let Bjarne know if you can be a volunteer.

Also for your calendar, please mark December 5th, which is the date set for our Christmas Party.  We have established a Christmas Party committee, and I invite you to give us your input to any of the Board members or to Aila Karpio, 604-875-6415, who is coordinating the planning committee.

I would also like to remind you to bring forward your recommendations for speakers for our dinner meetings this fall, starting Wednesday September 10th.

Our next dinner June 11 is our traditional joke telling contest, and the last dinner before the summer.  We also look forward to two member introductions at this popular dinner.

Bring some good jokes, or just come and listen, on Wednesday, June 11 for a great evening at the Club!

Best Regards,          Jan
